Position Summary
The Manager of Industrial Automation will lead the design, implementation, integration, and continuous improvement of industrial automation systems across BENEBION operations, with a strong emphasis on the new X-ray irradiation platform in Matehuala.
This role combines hands-on engineering, systems integration, project leadership, and operational support. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across PLC programming, industrial networking, SCADA systems, material handling automation, and production data integration.
The position will work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, quality, radiation physics, external integrators, and equipment suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Industrial Automation & Controls
Lead the architecture and implementation of industrial automation systems.
Develop and maintain PLC software, HMI systems, and industrial control logic.
Support commissioning, startup, and optimization of industrial systems.
Standardize automation philosophies, alarms, naming conventions, and software structures.
Develop troubleshooting methodologies and diagnostic tools for industrial operations.
Material Handling & Conveyor Systems
Design and optimize conveyor and pallet handling logic.
Integrate sensors, VFDs, barcode systems, positioning systems, and safety systems.
Improve throughput, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Support integration of automated handling systems with irradiation processes.
SCADA, Data & Connectivity
Develop and maintain SCADA and production monitoring systems.
Integrate automation systems with SQL databases and reporting tools.
Support production traceability and operational analytics.
Maintain industrial communication systems including PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, and related protocols.
Project & Technical Leadership
Coordinate external automation vendors and system integrators.
Support factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and commissioning activities.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Develop technical documentation, standards, and operating procedures.
Mentor technical personnel and contribute to engineering culture and continuous improvement.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure automation systems comply with industrial safety standards and operational requirements.
Support regulated operational environments including food safety and phytosanitary processes.
Participate in risk assessments, interlock reviews, and operational safety evaluations.
Key Requirements
Required
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Control Systems, or related field.
Experience with PLC programming and industrial automation systems.
Experience with industrial networking and communication protocols.
Strong troubleshooting and systems integration skills.
Ability to work hands-on in industrial environments.
English and Spanish professional communication skills.
Preferred
Experience with Siemens TIA Portal, S7 PLCs, WinCC, or related systems.
Experience with material handling or conveyor automation.
Experience integrating SCADA systems with databases and reporting tools.
Experience with VFDs, servo systems, industrial sensors, and safety systems.
Experience in food, pharmaceutical, sterilization, manufacturing, or regulated industrial environments.
Experience leading multidisciplinary technical projects.
