Cobalt‑60 is a synthetic radioisotope whose nucleus undergoes β⁻ decay into an excited state of nickel‑60; as that nucleus relaxes to its ground state it emits two high‑energy gamma photons (1.17 MeV and 1.33 MeV), making Co‑60 an ideal source of penetrating γ‑rays for industrial irradiation.

 

Since commencing operations in 2011, BENEBION’s cobalt‑60 gamma facility has been the only plant in Latin America capable of irradiating full industrial pallets with uniformly precise dosing. Over the past decade, it has expanded to become the world’s largest irradiation complex by treatment volume, serving a diverse range of critical products and applications.

By harnessing high‑activity cobalt‑60 sources alongside advanced conveyor and pallet‑handling systems, BENEBION ensures “good dose uniformity” at true industrial scale—continuing to lead the way in efficient, reliable irradiation services throughout Latin America and beyond.
